This is Part 2 of a 6 part series recorded live at RE+ Boston with the team at CPS.
CPS America is seeing high demand for C&I energy storage in 2026, especially in the Northeast. Luke Hardin, Business Development Engineer at CPS America, joins Tim Montague at RE+ Northeast in Boston to discuss the company's 125kW, 261kWh storage unit, scalability for hesitant installers, and what sets CPS apart in a crowded battery market. Tim raises a direct question: with 50 companies making batteries, how do you know the one you install today will work for 20 years?
Luke Hardin has been with CPS America for three years, starting as an intern and working through the engineering department, field experience, and string sizing before moving into business development. He focuses on the Northeast market.
Episode Highlights
CPS's C&I storage unit is a 125kW, 261kWh system. Luke says it is scalable: start with a few units in parallel and add more over time as project needs grow.
Massachusetts and New York are the top Northeast storage markets. Massachusetts has special battery incentives driving adoption.
CPS builds customer feedback directly into product design. Luke gives the example of rapid shutdown integration in wire boxes, which came from installer and designer input.
Tim pushes on supply chain anxiety among installers. Luke responds that CPS's service infrastructure, including Texas warehouses, performance engineers on a hotline, and field service across the country, backs up long-term reliability.
Luke positions the scalable approach as an entry point for installers who are hesitant about storage. Try a few units, evaluate performance, and expand from there.
This episode is for C&I installers exploring storage for the first time, solar developers in the Northeast, and anyone evaluating battery suppliers based on service infrastructure and product scalability.
